Dear Martin,

I am sorry for ruining your surprise birthday party for your girlfriend. Believe me it was not my plan to tell anyone about your secret plan to surprise her. What happened was, when you came to me for help on ideas to make the party worthwhile, I told you I would give it a thought. Afterwards I inquired from my sister if she had any ideas of herself but did not tell her that I was actually helping you out. She managed to piece together the fact that your girlfriend’s birthday was coming up and managed to leak the information to her before we could finish up on the plans. I found out and told her off about it and all my efforts to cover it up in order to avoid hurting your feelings ended up worsening the situation. I had to come clean with this because I do not want our relationship or yours to get damaged by this event, and I hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me.

Yours truly,

David.
