Subject: Letter of resignation from the position of teacher

Respected Sir,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you on the eve of my retirement as a teacher and head of the English department of this reputed institution to formally inform you of my impending retirement and resignation. The date of my retirement, as per the law, falls on the 31st of August 2012 and I wish to resign my post before that.

It is a difficult decision to leave this school that I have been associated with for over 20 years and have many fond associations and memories with. But I am relocating to a new country and the aforementioned move has necessitated the same. Hence I wish to inform you of the impending departure to prevent you from the harassment of being blindsided. I will be available at all hours to teach and train any replacement that you deem suitable for my position.

I wish to thank you and the rest of the staff for the wonderful memories and the opportunity that was given to me to work in such an amazing institution. I hope that both the institution and its children have a long and prosperous future.

Thanking you,

Yours Sincerely,

X Y Z
